The magic flute and its symbols

The Magic Flute (KV 620) (original German title: Die Zauberflöte) is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Morzart and a German libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. The work was conceived in the form of a Singspiel (1), which is a type of popular opera sung in German, in which spoken parts are interspersed.
It is the last opera staged during the composer's life and premiered at the Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, on September 30, 1791, under the direction of Mozart himself, just two months before his death.
According to many historians and critics, there is a significant Masonic influence on opera, due to the fact that Mozart was initiated into the Zur Wohltätigkeit ("Charity") lodge on December 14, 1784.
